Our Life: “We walk by faith and believe by sight”

One of the basic questions I ask guest posters is what would they most like to share with the blogs readers.

This week Andrew A Faccone has chosen to share a personal experience:

Our Life: “We walk by faith and believe by sight”

"Our Life:"We walk by faith and believe by sight" by Andrew A Faccone

2 Corinthians 5:7 We walk by faith, not by sight.

Those of us who view life from the optimist’s perspective enjoy many of the benefits of life that much of society cannot comprehend or even understand The optimist sees each day as a new opportunity- a chance to make a difference and leave the world better than when he awoke to a new day.

The readers of this blog are making a conscious effort daily to improve themselves so they can have greater impact where they are in their lives. Taking time to read inspirational or motivational readings enables to the reader to better handle the negativity that life presents us with.

Paul “Bear” Bryant, the legendary American college football coach for the The University of Alabama had a plaque on his desk which stated “We Must Get Better Spiritually, Physically and Mentally each and everyday. We start off with the best of intentions daily but life and the day to day commitments, challenges and obstacles we all face sometime make those intentions bigger than what they really are. This unique perspective on how we are able to handle life is not an elite’s perspective that we are better, we are just better prepared to handle what life presents us with. I find myself going thru my daily interaction with a smile on my face, an appreciation for life, a kind word to share with people and the desire to improve on a daily basis.

To help better implement this process you must make you a priority. It sounds easy in theory but many times we forget about ourselves and other “things” in our daily lives distract us and we are not a priority. Those “priorities” begin to gain momentum. Days become weeks, months turn into years and many times we lose control, forgetting that person we once were.

With the recent start of the New Year 2015 we all make resolutions to start anew, creating a better way and changing some of those habits or rituals to make a better you. Those of you reading this post on the second week of January – are you still just as committed to those resolutions as you were on Dec 31, 2014? The optimist that you are (because you are making a conscious effort to improve yourself by reading this article) has a driven purpose to make a difference in your life. The burning desire to improve, to stretch, not to settle where you are, to see things as they can be, not as they appear to be.

The optimist takes a different approach to life and is also criticized for the way he goes about his daily life.

Many times throughout a person’s life, challenges, obstacles and road blocks present themselves ,testing the optimist’s resolve in overcoming those formidable challenges. During our lifetime we are constantly evaluating how to react to situations, we learn from others who have experienced similar situations and we begin to share that knowledge with others who we interact with. The learning and sharing process is a lifelong process that we all experience.

Then there will come a situation that will truly test your every fiber, you will truly question your reason for existence. I am referring to the death of your parent. I recently lost my father Anthony J. Faccone this past April 12, 2014, after a brief illness.

The world has been quite different since my father’s passing. I was blessed to have my father in my life, my married life with my wife, my family’s lives and both of my children were lucky enough to have had their Grandpa in their lives in so many ways. He was the 5th person in our 4 person family. We did everything with him and he did with us.

The new normal has not been the easiest since his passing, as there have been some challenging days, frustrating situations and our family has had days that have been missing something since his passing. We are all tested in life in many ways, what you believe deep down inside will reveal itself when you need it most. When the challenge is the most difficult your true resolve will reveal itself. What you believe and demonstrate will see you thru those challenging times.

What I have discovered since his passing as I make a dedicated effort to get my life back to the ”new normal” I draw upon my reserves of optimism and wisdom that my father shared with me my entire life.

Those Pearls of Wisdom have appeared and aided me numerous times since last April. Life is not easy, those who possess a vision for life, a burning desire to live with a purpose and believe in there heart of hearts with all they possess there best days are still ahead That belief system will help you weather the challenges you are presented with. We are all faced with many challenges. what you have deep inside will help sustain the storm and thrive when the storm passes.

I was so very fortunate to have such a wonderful father who did so many wonderful things for me, for my wife and for my children. He was a man of action who shared with me all the things I needed to know to excel in the game of life, lead with character and be the husband and father my family is worthy of. I would not be the person I am if it wasn’t for the man who was my father

In closing you may not understand why things occur as they do in your life, you must rely on yourself and what your gut tells you to do a different times. You must walk by faith and believe by sight to reach your bright & unlimited potential.

Four Simple Coaching Confidence Boosters

by Sarah Maliphant

What’s made the greatest difference to your coaching confidence? Whether you’re just starting or have been coaching for years, the explorative nature of coaching takes us and our clients into new territory often, and that brings with it uncertainty, unknowns and potential for confidence dips.

First step therefore is to accept that moments of uncertainty are frequent and normal! They dissolve by continuing to explore, staying open, resourceful and curious; Sometimes by just noting that a particular area feels “uncertain,” acknowledging this to be the case and getting certain about what’s uncertain!

New Territory? Explore!

Behind that there is your own faith and experience of the coaching process. For me, my initial coaching confidence came from knowing how much I value being listened to, being asked questions with interest and without judgement or advice. I trust the process and love the underlying approach of coaching, that assumption that your client has the answer and simply values a bit of support to connect things up.

Conversely, my most challenging confidence-dips as a coach have been when I have a judgement on how I’m doing as a client with my own coach. Accepting that my little steps forward are often really, really mind bogglingly little usually releases that double bind… and in becoming more accepting of my own sustainable pace, I feel more confident in travelling at whatever pace my clients seek.

Mountain Metaphors: Half way through 8 hours of REALLY small steps to a summit in the Andes, June 2005

On an ongoing basis, the biggest confidence booster that comes to mind is: Ask your client

  • Not sure whether the pace is right? Ask!
  • Aware that a lot of coaching time is being used to repeat stories or detailed content? Ask if that’s how they want to spend their time, ask how and when to intrude
  • Not sure how to raise something? Ask how they’d like you to handle it
  • Wondering whether there’s more you could provide? Ask what else they’d like

The simplicity of this is rich: Asking is, after all, a fundamental of coaching. But there’s a deeper value too. By asking your client, you reinforce their belief in their ability to identify, communicate and respond to their own needs. Regardless of the specific outcome they are moving towards, this strengthens their connection to their own resourcefulness.

Does this make the conversation all about you, the coach? No, these are moments where you check in, create space for your client to do the same – and then you can continue your explorations together.

Our job is not to be awesomely amazing, but to help craft a space that is safe enough for our clients’ amazingness to blossom to their satisfaction. So relax, ask, and carry on coaching 🙂

Have Faith

Coach, creative consultant and soon to be Yoga teacher Louise Gillepsie-Smith shares her personal experience and lessons she’s learnt so far in this week’s guest post.

Have Faith

By Louise Gillepsie-Smith

Do you ever wonder where your next clients are going to come from?

Do you ever start to worry or feel desperate about finding business?

As coaches we all know about the law of attraction and getting what we focus on but how much do you fully trust the universe to provide you with everything you need? To allow yourself just to go with life’s flow and have faith everything will work out exactly as it is meant to be.

When I first started as a coach over 5 years ago I was super positive, I had my goals, my week by week, day by day action list and work started to come in. As promised by the company I trained with after so many months I had 10 clients. I was really pleased with my self! Then they started to drop off a bit, people finished their course with me and not all the free taster sessions I gave turned into paying clients. From then on it started to feel a little like a up hill struggle, I was doing everything I could to find clients but not feeling like I was getting enough. I would do things I didn’t really want to do just to try to find work and working all hours. Then one day I discovered Yoga, it relaxed my mind so much that I set an intention for the next year ahead……to only do things I love.

That year a miracle occurred, I was doing less work to find business, I was enjoying myself fully and guess what, more work flowed to me that year than ever before! You see when you are having fun, enjoying what you do and not acting desperate you become like a magnet. People want a bit of what you have got. I know this is something I am sure we all tell clients all the time but even coaches can have loose our faith a bit sometimes too!

Since then I have slowly but surely deepened my faith in the Universe to provide me with everything I need. This became even more powerful after January 2011 when I sat on a beach under the full moon in India and set my intention for the year ahead. I was going to finally move to the beach, after 4 years of thinking about it, and to travel for 6 months around India in 2012, a dream I held for the past 13 years. The day after I returned from my holiday I lost a coaching contract in a company which set the wheels in motion for me to make these changes.

Here I am now writing this blog for you in Mcleod Ganj in the mountains in Northern India, I am here training to be a yoga teacher! When I get back in June I am moving to Brighton. My intention I set in January 2011 manifested and the events that led me to be here were not all under my control. Everything just seemed to shift to make it happen. I just trusted that it would some how and learnt how to be patient!

Here are a few tips I have learnt for setting your intention and having faith life will work out exactly as it’s meant to be:

1. To remind myself of what I choose to create in my life I like to use crystals as each type has a different energy and healing power. For example Rose Quartz is great for opening your heart and attracting love. Citrine is good for abundance, joy, creativity and fully trusting the universe. When you get a crystal you have to cleanse it (this can just be done by running it under water and focusing on any negative energy washing away whilst returning to it’s full power) set your intention for it and then when ever you see or hold it you will be reminded of your intention. A post it note on the wall works well too if you don’t believe in crystals!

2. Be with uncertainty. We don’t ever want to know the ending of a great film so why do we want to know what is going to happen next in our lives?! Replace “I hope” with “I wonder if” and enjoy watching the mystery of your life unfold!

3. Have faith in yourself and learn to listen to your heart. So often we get caught up in our minds but as we all know our minds often get caught up with fear. If you believe in what you are doing and feel deeply it is the right path for you then trust it.

4. Be patient. It’s impossible to put a time on when something will materialize in your life, just trust it will happen when the time is right.

5. Trust you will attract the clients and business that is right for you. It’s easy to get concerned that there are so many other coaches out there but I really believe we all have something unique to offer and the right clients will find you.

6. Do what you love. As I mentioned before I learnt that getting desperate and trying everything to find work including some activities that didn’t fill me with joy just didn’t work! As soon as I relaxed it all started to flow.

I am sure you already have a good understanding of the law of attraction being coaches, I had too but there was always a little part of my that didn’t 100% have faith in it until now. Over the past year I have been running an experiment to see the impact setting intentions have, I have set a different intention for each month and lived by it. You can read about it here; http://ajourneyofintention.com/ or follow me on Twitter LouiseatCreate.
