Sometimes peace finds us not in answers, but in perspective.
“Out among the big things
The heights that gleam afar
A feller gets to wonder,
What means each distant star;
He may not get an answer,
But somehow, every night
He feels, among the big things,
That everything’s all right.”
(Arthur Chapman)
Some people find that they naturally drop into a sense of peace, awe, or simple calm when they are around something vast or natural.
It is not the only way, and it does not mean you are broken if that feeling does not come easily.
And if you normally do, but find that your thoughts are too loud to appreciate the beauty in front of you, that does not mean it has stopped working.
It is all still there. Sometimes it just takes a little while for the mind to quiet enough to notice.
The peace was never gone, only hidden beneath the noise.
Questions For Coaches
- Where do you go when you need to reconnect with a sense of perspective?
- What helps your thinking quiet enough to feel the vastness beyond it?
- How do you support clients in seeing beyond the edges of their current view?
- When everything feels uncertain, what reminds you that things are, at their core, all right?
You do not need to answer every question, just notice which one feels alive for you.
