Swings and Roundabouts

Sometimes balance finds us in ways we couldn’t have planned.

“What’s lost upon the roundabouts we pulls up on the swings!” (Patrick R. Chalmers)

Life rarely moves in a straight line. We gain in one place, lose in another, and sometimes what looks like a setback is quietly making room for something new.

When we’re in motion, it can be hard to see the bigger picture. The dips, pauses, and unexpected turns can seem unfair or out of rhythm. Yet, given time, things often even out in ways we couldn’t have designed ourselves.

It’s not about trying to control the ride, but noticing how balance has a way of finding its own form, even when we’re not looking for it.

Questions For Coaches

  • Where do you notice the swings and roundabouts in your own life or work?
  • How do you support clients when life feels off balance?
  • What helps you stay steady when things seem to be shifting?
  • When have you seen something that looked like a loss turn out to be a gift?

You don’t need to answer every question, just notice which one feels alive for you.
