Exploring the difference between endings and new beginnings.
“Better late than never.” (Thomas Fuller)
There are times when it really is too late; when something has ended, moved on, or can’t be redone.
And there are other times when it only feels too late.
When the mind has already decided the moment has passed, even though possibility is still quietly waiting.
Maybe what this points to isn’t about forcing a second chance, but about being open to what’s still alive now.
Even when the first door has closed, there can be another way to step forward: perhaps smaller, gentler, or entirely unexpected.
Questions For Coaches
- When have you discovered it was too late for one thing but not for something else?
- How do you support clients in recognising when a door is truly closed versus when it only appears to be?
- What happens when you stop trying to recreate the past and begin listening to what’s present?
- Where might “late” simply mean “now”?
You don’t need to answer every question—just notice which one draws your attention today.
