When Tears Speak Without Words

Tears are not always sorrow. Sometimes they are the heart remembering its openness.

“It is not always sorrow that opens the fountains of the eyes.” (Marie de Rabutin-Chantal)

Tears can come from so many places.
From grief, yes, but also from relief, from beauty, from the moment we see something true and cannot quite put it into words.

Sometimes our eyes soften simply because our hearts have opened.
The same space that holds sadness also makes room for love, gratitude, and understanding. It is all movement, all release.

In those moments, there is no need to explain what the tears mean.
They can be quiet witnesses to something deeper, a sign that something has shifted inside us and found its way to the surface.

To feel deeply is not a weakness.
It is a sign of life flowing through us, washing away resistance and leaving space for what is real.

Questions For Coaches

  • What moments have brought tears to your eyes lately, and what did they reveal?
  • How do you recognise when tears are a sign of release rather than pain?
  • What happens in your coaching when emotion is simply allowed to be present?
  • How do you support clients in meeting emotion with gentleness instead of judgment?

You don’t need to answer every question, just notice which one feels alive for you.
