The Bright, Shining Tears of Clarity

The outline of a single bird is silhouetted in front of a beautiful sunrise. The sky is clear and all orange and red. A clear, calm sea is in the for front of the image.
The text is a quote: "There are other tears, bright, clear, untroubled, Shining as the sun, untouched of care." (Zabel Sibil Asadour)

“There are other tears, bright, clear, untroubled, Shining as the sun, untouched of care.” (Zabel Sibil Asadour)

Zabel Sibil Asadour, an Armenian poet, novelist, and teacher, beautifully captured the essence of joyful, untroubled tears in her writing. Her words invite us to consider emotions that come not from struggle, but from a place of deep clarity, connection, and joy.

In my coaching, I often guide clients toward this kind of clarity—the moments when their eyes shine with the light of new understanding, unburdened and free. But what does it take for someone to reach that place?

Exploring What They Truly Want

One of the most profound gifts you can offer your clients is the space to explore what they truly want. Not the surface-level desires driven by external expectations, but the deeper longings that often lie hidden beneath layers of “shoulds” and “ought tos.”

This process involves looking beyond logical next steps and even past desires, to discover what feels alive for them right now.

As coaches, we help clients get in touch with what they would love—the life they want to create, the work that energises them, the relationships they long for. But this exploration doesn’t always feel easy for all clients, all of the time.

What gets in the way? Fear of disappointment, a sense of unworthiness, or even the discomfort of acknowledging something they’ve buried for years. Maybe a client has a lot of thinking and beliefs can be held around it being wrong to actually say what you want – did they grow up hearing “I want doesn’t get” as a rebuke? Helping clients navigate these blocks with compassion and curiosity is fundamental to unlocking those moments of clarity.

The Spark of Shining Eyes

You’ve likely seen it before—that moment when a client connects with something deeply meaningful, and their eyes light up. It’s as if they’ve tapped into a reservoir of inner wisdom, and for those moments, the clutter of the mind clears.

That feeling—the one that brings shining eyes or even joyful tears—is worth paying attention to. It’s often a sign they’re on the right track, reconnecting with their truest desires and purpose.

Encouraging clients to trust these moments and lean into them, rather than brushing them aside, can be transformative. When they allow themselves to sit with that feeling, it can provide the clarity and confidence they need to move forward.

Your Role as the Coach

How comfortable are you when a client wells up with emotion, especially joyful tears?

For some clients, these moments can feel overwhelming or even embarrassing. They might start to apologise or laugh it off, dismissing the depth of what they’re feeling. This is where your presence as a coach becomes invaluable.

Can you hold space for those emotions without rushing to reassure them or diminish their importance? Can you gently help clients recognise the significance of what they’re experiencing and see it as a signal of alignment with their true selves?

And what about you? Have you noticed moments when you, too, connect with that feeling, when your eyes shine alongside your client’s?

Reflection for Coaches

  • How do you support clients in exploring what they would truly love?
  • What do you notice when your clients have moments of clarity or insight?
  • How do you respond when a client wells up with happy tears or shining eyes?

Personally, in those moments of shining eyes and joyful tears, you witness your client’s deepest connection to themselves. While it’s not the only way this connection can reveal itself, I find it a huge honour—and one of my greatest joys of being a transformative coach—to be with someone as they recognise that connection.

8 C.O.A.C.H.I.N.G. Mindset Success Strategies To Boost Your Success!

by Frederique Murphy

COACH… It is one of those words, isn’t it? Judging by the 577 million results obtained when keying the word in Google, it is something that’s definitely at the top of a lot of people’s minds!

So, how will YOU, as a coach, stand out from the crowd?

One answer. One word: MINDSET.

And, yes, MINDSET is also one of those BIG words!

I believe that your mindset drives every single thing that you do in life, and in the way that you lead yourself, your career, your business. We all have a mindset, the only difference (and, that is the one that makes the difference) is how strong and powerful yours is; your mindset is what sets you, as coaches, apart. It is THE factor that will determine how outstanding – or how average – your coaching business results are.

I know that you know that; but, what I also know is that as coaches we know these for our clients; we focus our energy and our strategies towards our clients, and it is common to forget to apply these to ourselves.

There are many mindset success strategies and I have selected 8 of them for you to focus on, using the word coaching as a mnemonic!

=> C <=

Clarity, Be clear on what you want to achieve for yourself and your coaching business.

=> O <=

Obstacles, Face and push through to overcome.

=> A <=

Action, Take actions to move forward.

=> C <=

Comfort, Step out and stretch to grow.

=> H <=

Help, Ask for help.

=> I <=

I as in you, Choose your attitude.

=> N <=

Network, Surround yourself wisely.

=> G <=

Get results, You are the key to your success, 100% responsible for your results.

Here you have them!

I’m sure that these look familiar or even too simple. BUT, do not disregard them because “they sound too easy”! These are powerful, and the power lies with you: ask yourself: do I apply this strategy daily, do I live by it, do I lead by it, and do I run my coaching business by it? You want to answer all 3 with a resounding YES for maximum impact.

These mindset strategies are powerful.

When you actually apply them, AND, when you do it consistently.

Which one of these will you apply today to boost your success? I’d love for you to share; this will be helpful for the other coaches. Comment below!

Finding a moment of calm

In today’s guest post, Sarah Hutton shares some of her experience and thoughts around supporting clients and herself.

Finding a moment of calm

By Sarah Hutton

As coaches we always want to show up 100% for our clients, to give them our absolute best. This can be more easily said than done, especially if our personal lives are in turmoil, or we’ve just received some distressing news.

The same of course applies to our clients. Whatever it is they’ve come to us for coaching on, they want to get the most from their time with their coach. They want to be able to think clearly and be as free from distractions as possible.

So what do we do when we know our executive coaching client has just had bad news or we know they are experiencing problems at home which will affect their stress levels and decision making capability at work?

It was this quandry which lead me to seek different ways in which to support my clients – and myself. With a background in complementary therapies as well as coaching I felt there should be something more I could do to support clients in difficult situations, other than to “just” coach them through it.

I was also experiencing challenging times at home as a relationship slowly broke down, and at the same time I needed to perform at my best in my business. I wanted something simple and easy I could apply which would help me get off the emotional roller-coaster and think with a calm, clear head. I needed something which would enable me to reconnect with that deep sense of inner calm we all have within us.

I’ve tried going outdoors and grounding myself, moving around and changing my state, or even dancing to my favourite music. I’ve also used NLP, and have anchored feelings of calm, focus, confidence etc, but I wanted something more.

My answer came through training in Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique). A really simple breathing and tapping technique enables me to release stress and get myself onto an even keel where I can think clearly and focus on my clients – in the space of less than 5 minutes! I share the same “Finding Calm Amidst The Storm” technique with my clients – especially those going through emotional turmoil. It has proven invaluable, and helps both me and my clients to perform at our best even when faced with troubles elsewhere in life.

I now work much more holistically, combining coaching, belief transformation and EFT to helping my clients develop emotionally, as well as to transform their lives even when it feels as though their world is falling apart. And while there is never a “one size fits all” solution, I have found that sharing how to find a moment of calm helps both me and my clients to stay calm, focused and to achieve great results both during and after a session.

What do you do to ensure you are in the right “space” to coach your clients?

What do you do to find that moment of calm to give you clarity and focus?

How can you support your clients in the same way?

Maximizing Team Ouput

In today’s guest post Kyle Ohman shares his thoughts and experience in both business and in basketball coaching about:

"Maximizing Team Ouput" A guest post by Kyle Ohman

Maximizing Team Ouput

by Kyle Ohman

As a leader or coach of a team one of your main responsibilities is to get the most out of each member of the group. If you can get every single person performing at their best and moving in the same direction there is no limit to what you can accomplish. This is easier said than done but if you can accomplish this then there is no telling what you are going to be able to accomplish.

My background is in sports but I have recently been fortunate enough to move into co-owning my own company BasketballHQ.com. The one thing that I quickly realized though is that there are so many parallels between a business and sports. A lot of the stuff that I have learned playing and coaching basketball I have been able to translate over into running a business. Here are 3 keys that every coach or boss can use to help maximize the output of their team.

Have a Clear Direction

You can’t expect everyone to be on the same page and moving to accomplish the team or companies goals if they don’t clearly know what they are. It is your job to make sure that each person knows what is trying to be accomplished and what is expected the group and of them individually. Only after this happens are you able to have accountability within your team.

To get your message across you need to have two levels of communication. You need to have group communication followed up with personal communication. If you have a large company then this means communicating with each department head to make sure that they clearly understand what is needed from them and the people under them. Only after you have done this can you hold people accountable.

Buying in is Key

It doesn’t matter how great the game plan is if you are not able to get everyone on the same page and moving in the same direction. If part of the group is trying to do it one way and the other part of the team is doing something different, you are just going to have conflict and never get anywhere.

In college my basketball coach Ritchie Mckay used the analogy of everyone being in a circle. He and stepped into the center circle at half court and then told each coach and player to give an honest evaluation of themselves on whether they were bought into what the team was trying to do. If you were all the way bought in you put both feet in, one foot in and one foot out represented partially bought in, and two feet out meant not at all. I am not saying that you should do this but it is an eye opener to see what people think of themselves.

Once you have figured out where everyone stands you can better assess what you need to do as far as individually getting people to buy in. Not everyone is going to agree with the way that you do things but it is important that you make it clear that they need to be bought in and doing their best to accomplish your plan. If they are unable to do this then you may need to let them go and bring someone else in.

Every Person is Important

We have all heard the analogy of a team only being as strong as its weakest link and it is so true. In your mind picture are really strong and sturdy chain. One end of the chain is securely wrapped around an old stump that needs to be pulled out of the ground. The other end is hooked up to a big powerful F-350 truck that will have no problem pulling the stump out of the ground.

Right before the truck begins to pull the stump out of the ground you look closely at the chain and one of the links in the chain has been replaced with a paper clip. The truck begins to move forward and as soon as the chain begins to get taught the paper clip snaps and the job is failed.

That one weak link compromised the whole thing. The rest of the chain couldn’t compensate for that one weak link and it is the same way with a team. If one person in your group doesn’t do their job on the presentation you aren’t going to get the client or if one player misses their defensive assignment at the end of the game the other team will score and you will lose the game. All that to say that you need to make sure that you maximizing each persons output. It is that important to make sure that every single person is firing on all cylinders.

“There is no measure or limit to what you can do when you get everyone on the same page and moving in the same direction.” – Ritchie McKay
