What Matters Can’t Always Be Measured

There’s no universal formula for importance, but you can feel your way into what matters now for you.

You may have noticed that there are times when what seems like a big deal to you is trivial to someone else.

What if there’s no universal checklist, no neat formula for deciding what matters to you?

What we think is important is felt, not measured. And what feels important today might not tomorrow. That doesn’t seem like a flaw in how we work to me, but a reflection of our ability to adapt to new information, new thought, new understanding.

And the option of presence, of listening inward, of noticing that wisdom often shows up in the moment—can make such a difference to our experience.
Not as a fixed rule we must strive to apply, but as a gentle, quiet sense of what matters to you now.

Questions For Coaches

  • Where are you trying to follow a formula instead of listening to your own sense of things?
  • What feels important today that might not have, yesterday?
  • What helps you notice what truly matters in the moment?
  • How do you recognise the difference between urgency and importance?

No need to answer them all, just see where your attention is drawn.
