Not every pause is empty. Sometimes, it’s where the real insight arrives.
Some silences feel uncomfortable.
Others feel full.
In coaching and in life, silence isn’t always empty.
It can hold clarity. Insight. Presence.
It allows space for wisdom to rise, rather than being crowded out by noise or habit.
Sometimes the most powerful part of a conversation is the bit where no one is speaking.
And sometimes, it’s not even about pausing but sensing the silence underneath the words, the quiet presence that’s already there, beneath it all.
Silence isn’t just something we offer others.
It’s also something we can offer ourselves.
A pause. A breath.
A chance to hear what we hadn’t yet noticed.
#Questions For Coaches
- What do you notice in the silences within your coaching?
- How do you distinguish a generative pause from an avoidant one?
- What helps you become more comfortable with quiet?
- When was the last time you truly listened, without rushing to fill the gap?
And if just one question stays with you, let that be enough. Silence doesn’t ask for more than that.
