Day 7

Congratulations – I hope you have taken a moment to acknowledge to yourself what you have already created in draft format. Because that is what we did yesterday – finished creating your draft welcome pack.

If you haven’t reached that stage yet, that’s OK. I would encourage you to go back and actually complete the action assignments; they are there to make creating your welcome pack easier.

If you can’t find the previous days email then if you click here you can find a link to the previous days messages.

Today we are going to discuss how to layout your welcome pack and the format that you want to use.

Having created your own unique content that reflects your own style and the needs of your ideal client lets continue that with how it’s presented.

Below you will find some points for you to consider:

How are you going to deliver your welcome pack?

Will your clients have a hard copy? Will they be sent it electronically or even complete this via an online platform?

Your delivery method can effect how you physically format your welcome pack.

For example, if you are delivering your welcome pack electronically select a method that is fair for most of your ideal clients to be able to open! Sometimes it’s not only the type of program you use to produce the document that can influence someone’s ability to open it, but also the version of the program.

Is there any section of your welcome pack that you want your client to answer/complete?

If so, how are they going to do that? Again this can influence the format of your welcome pack. There is no point asking someone to fill in answers and email it back if you leave it in a format they cannot alter.

Consider how much space someone may need to answer any questions. Too much may look intimidating, too little may not let them provide the answer they want. This is more relevant in some formats more than others.

What layout and formatting would make it easier for your client to read and use your welcome pack?

This will be specific for your niche.

Perhaps it has to do with font size, or even font choice.

For example, anyone with reading challenges often find fonts such as comic sans easier to use – that font produces “balnk background’s” as most people actually write them, so it looks like “balnk background” instead of “a”.

What does your ideal client expect?

Again, this may be specific to your ideal client group. Some may expect a very formal lay out, while other groups may want something colourful.

How can you use your layout, formatting and delivery method so that it is in line with what you want to achieve with your welcome pack?

This may easily have been achieved by already considering the above points. For example, if one of the things you want to achieve with your welcome pack is to provide information to your client then a format they can access is a simple way to make sure that’s in-line.

Does any of your content influence your delivery method, layout and formatting?

The most likely thing that could influence this will be additional extras. For example any extra assessments that you want to include a link to an online location. If you have chosen an electronic method of delivery, can you make that link so all they have to do is click on the link?

Other aspects you may want to consider

  • You may also want to include your contact details in pages header/footer. It will allow your client to find your contact details easily – even if they have mislaid a hardcopy page or are half way through answering a question.
  • I have created individual headings for the purpose of creating a step-by-step guide to creating your welcome pack. However it does not mean that you have to keep the contents of what you have created separate.
  • Equally, you can easily rearrange the order of your welcome pack so that it has a logical flow for you and your client with your chosen content.

Action Assignment

1. Choose the delivery method you and your client will use with your welcome pack.

2. Using the points above select the format and layout you wish to use.

3. Create your finished, formatted welcome pack.

Congratulations on creating your own unique welcome pack!

In conclusion, this is your welcome pack just as much as your clients. Once you have created it, there is nothing to say that it is set in stone. You are allowed to tweak or radically change it as you develop and refine your own style.

I encourage you to use it as an extension of your actual sessions so that you tailor it to get the results you want. What-ever you include in your welcome pack I encourage you to include it for a specific reason. A reason that is going to strengthen the value you offer to your clients – not just because it appears to be common practice.

Remember they choose to work with YOU, not anybody else. If something doesn’t get the result that you want tweak or change it until you get the results that you want.

Best Wishes

Love
